If your business runs on Notion, you've probably pasted the same pages into Claude more times than you can count.
Your client list. Your project notes. Your content calendar.
On October 13, Notion released version 3.8. Its headline: "Context for your agents."
Notion's line: "Connect an MCP-compatible agent to Notion so it can read your workspace context."
(MCP is the plug that lets AI apps work inside other apps. You don't need to know more than that.)
In plain English: Claude can now read your Notion pages, and update your docs and task lists, without you copying anything.
Right after this: the setup, five prompts to try, and the one thing to know before you connect it.
Now a quick word from today's sponsor.
Leave Granola and get up to 12 months free of Wispr Flow Notetaker + Dictation
If you have paid time left on an individual Granola plan, we'll match it with a Wispr Flow subscription that includes Notetaker and dictation, and add bonus time, up to 12 months total. Sign in or create a Wispr account and submit proof of your plan to check eligibility.
Right. Back to it.
What's new in 3.8
Claude and other AI agents can connect to your workspace, read it, and update docs and task trackers.
Skills you build in Notion can sync to ChatGPT and Claude.
If your Notion workspace is on a Business or Enterprise plan, ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can connect their plan to cover AI in Notion, with no markup.
And version history now covers pages and databases, and shows which edits came from people and which came from agents.
Setup
Notion says it works with Claude on the web and in the desktop app.
In Claude, open your connectors and add Notion. (The exact menu moves around now and then, so poke about if it's not where you expect.)
Sign in to Notion and approve access.
Start a new chat and ask Claude about a page you know well, to check it can see it.
Notion also lists ChatGPT Pro and Cursor as supported, plus any app that supports MCP.
Five prompts to try
1. Read my Clients database in Notion. List every client I haven't contacted in 30 days, with my last note on each.
2. Turn this week's meeting notes into tasks in my Notion task tracker, with owners and due dates.
3. Find every page about [project] and write a one-page status summary as a new Notion page.
4. Check my content calendar in Notion and draft posts for next week's empty slots.
5. Read my notes on competitors and my pricing page draft in Notion. List the gaps.Number 1 is the one I'd run first. It's the follow-up list you've been meaning to make.
The one thing to know first
Notion's own help page: connected tools "act with your full Notion permissions."
So Claude can reach everything you can reach, and nothing more. If you have access to payroll, so does your AI.
Notion's advice is to start with personal, single-player workflows, and to give your pages descriptive titles.
If it gets something wrong
Open version history. You'll see what changed, who changed it (person or agent), and you can restore the earlier version with a click.
Make it stick
Create one page called "Start here." Put in who you are, what you sell, who your clients are and how you like things written.
Then start every Notion job with: "Read my Start here page first."
That "Start here" page is step one of something bigger: lay your business out once, and any AI can pick up the work. That's the whole idea behind The One-Person Company Playbook.
It's the complete setup for running a business where AI does the work of a full team. Inside:
A company folder with your brief, pipeline tracker and invoice log already laid out, so any AI picks up where you left off
Thirty AI roles across six departments, from sales to finance, ready to use
Six jobs that run on a clock: the morning briefing, follow-ups, invoice checks and more
The step-by-step path from picking a business model to your first paying customer
Works on Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok, whichever you already pay for.
The catch: it takes about eight hours over a weekend to set up. After that, it's yours. $97, one-time (down from $297).
Talk tomorrow,
Zephyr
P.S. Run prompt number 1, then hit reply: how many clients were on the list?
