Ever asked an AI for a document, then spent ten minutes copying it into Word to fix two lines?

With Gemini, you can skip that step now.

Google just gave Gemini the ability to create documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets right in the chat, and you can edit them there too.

It's on every account, free included, in every language the Gemini app supports.

(Yes, free. No AI Pro needed.)

Right after this: how to make your first file, the editing trick that saves the most time, what works on your phone versus the web, and a whole-deck fix for Google Slides.

Now a quick word from today's sponsor.

Right. Back to it.

How it works

  1. Ask Gemini for a file, and name the format: "a one-page PDF," "a spreadsheet," "a six-slide deck."

  2. A preview shows up under the reply.

  3. Click into the text and edit it yourself, or open the full-screen view for more room.

Here's a good first one to try:

Turn these notes into a one-page PDF proposal for [client]: a short intro, three options with prices in a table, and next steps. Keep it plain and professional.

[paste your notes]

The trick that saves the most time

Highlight a section and ask Gemini to rewrite just that part, or ask a question about it.

So when one paragraph is off, you fix that paragraph instead of regenerating the whole file.

After a targeted edit, skim the rest to make sure nothing else changed.

Phone vs. web

  • PDFs: preview and edit on the web and in the Gemini mobile app.

  • Documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, Markdown, text and code: web only for now.

When you're done, decks open in Google Slides or download as PowerPoint or PDF. Spreadsheets open in Google Sheets. PDFs can be exported or saved to Google Drive.

Whole-deck edits in Google Slides (paid plans)

This one's for Google AI Pro and Ultra, plus some Workspace work plans (Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus).

Gemini in Google Slides can now edit several slides, or a whole deck, from one prompt in the side panel. It can refresh the styling across every slide or match the look of another presentation, and the slides stay editable.

Try this in the side panel:

Make every slide in this deck use the same fonts, colors and title layout as slide 1. Don't change any of the text.

It started rolling out on Oct 29, and Google says it may take more than two weeks to reach every account.

One caution

Files you make in the chat are part of the conversation, and they're handled like any other Gemini chat.

Google's own advice is not to enter "confidential information that you wouldn't want a reviewer to see." So keep bank statements, contracts and medical letters out of it.

Make it stick

Next time you need a one-pager, start it in Gemini instead of a blank document.

Fix it with highlights, export it, done.

A one-page proposal in five minutes is great. It gets better when the AI already knows your prices, your clients and how you like proposals to look. That's the whole idea behind The One-Person Company Playbook.

It's the complete setup for running a business where AI does the work of a full team. Inside:

  • A company folder with your brief, pipeline tracker and invoice log already laid out, so any AI picks up where you left off

  • Thirty AI roles across six departments, from sales to finance, ready to use

  • Six jobs that run on a clock: the morning briefing, follow-ups, invoice checks and more

  • The step-by-step path from picking a business model to your first paying customer

Works on Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok, whichever you already pay for.

The catch: it takes about eight hours over a weekend to set up. After that, it's yours. $97, one-time (down from $297).
