Good morning! It is November 25, 2024, today. We have an exciting lineup of AI news, from Amazon's bold move in the AI chip market to a revealing survey on Gen Z's work preferences with AI and Snowflake's significant upgrade amidst the AI revolution. Let's dive into the latest updates!

1. Amazon Challenges Nvidia's AI Chip Dominance with Trainium 2 and Aggressive Investments

In the $100 billion AI chip market, Amazon is intensifying efforts to compete with Nvidia by developing specialized processors like Trainium 2 at its Annapurna Labs. Launching next month, Trainium 2 targets specific AI tasks, such as training large models, and offers cost efficiency—Amazon claims its Inferentia chips are 40% cheaper for running AI models.

AWS, which seeks to balance supporting Nvidia’s GPUs while offering alternatives, aims to reduce reliance on Nvidia's dominance, which accounts for 80% of the market and $26.3 billion in quarterly AI chip sales. To support AI development, Amazon is investing $75 billion in 2024 and offering $110 million in Trainium chip credits for researchers.

2. Gen Z Leads the Way in AI Tool Adoption, Google Survey Finds

A new Google Workspace survey reveals that 93% of Gen Z workers (ages 22-27) use at least two generative AI tools weekly, outpacing millennial adoption at 79%. Gen Z leverages AI for tasks like drafting emails, taking meeting notes, and tackling overwhelming projects. Younger workers are also more open about their AI use, with 52% discussing it with colleagues. While Google promotes AI as a productivity booster, broader studies suggest overall adoption is slowing, with many hesitant to admit using AI. Still, Gen Z's enthusiasm signals the potential for widespread adoption and significant workplace transformations.

3. Snowflake, Elastic, and Palantir Get AI-Fueled Stock Upgrades

Snowflake’s stock jumped 4% premarket following Wedbush’s upgrade to “outperform,” citing its prime position to benefit from AI adoption in the enterprise sector over the next 12-18 months. Analyst Dan Ives set a $190 price target, noting AI’s transformative impact as the “next gear” in tech’s evolution. Elastic also saw a boost with a new price target of $135, as companies migrate to next-gen platforms amid surging AI demand. Palantir and Salesforce received increased targets, at $75 and $375 respectively, underscoring the bullish outlook for AI-driven software companies.

4. AI Robots Are Alarmingly Vulnerable to Jailbreaks, Researchers Warn

A study from the University of Pennsylvania highlights dangerous vulnerabilities in AI-enhanced robotic systems, revealing a 100% success rate in jailbreaking devices like Nvidia-backed Dolphins LLM, Clearpath Robotics Jackal UGV, and Unitree Robotics Go2 quadrupeds. Dubbed "RoboPAIR," the attack method exploits APIs to execute malicious commands. Potentially catastrophic scenarios include robot dogs weaponized as flamethrowers and self-driving cars targeting pedestrians. Researchers emphasize that integrating large language models (LLMs) with physical robots magnifies risks, urging the need for robust defenses. Companies affected were briefed before findings went public.

5. AI Voice-Cloning Scams Are Fooling Millions—Here’s How to Stay Safe

Scammers are using AI voice models to impersonate loved ones and trick victims into revealing sensitive information or transferring money. With just a few seconds of audio—often pulled from social media—AI tools can convincingly mimic voices, creating urgent and emotional scenarios. Examples include fraudsters posing as family members needing financial help or imitating public figures to orchestrate scams.

To protect yourself, cybersecurity experts recommend tactics like pre-agreed secret phrases, listening for unnatural speech patterns, and verifying suspicious calls by contacting the person directly. Be alert to unusual requests, especially involving bank details, as this new wave of scams grows increasingly sophisticated.

6. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Talks AI Hallucinations, Computing Power

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts it will take years to solve the problem of AI hallucinations—where AI fabricates information—despite advancements in areas like pre-training, post-training, and test-time scaling (AI "thinking"). Speaking at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Huang explained how Nvidia has revolutionized computing by reducing costs a million times, fueling the rise of machine learning. He acknowledged that while AI-generated answers are improving, achieving full trust in their accuracy remains a distant goal.
