3. Google Photos Adds AI Edit Info for Transparency on Image Manipulations

Google Photos will soon show an “AI info” section to identify images edited with AI tools like Magic Editor and Magic Eraser, adding transparency to manipulated photos. Visible in Android, iOS, and web versions, the update uses IPTC metadata standards to display labels like “Edited with Google AI” or “Composite of captured elements” under image details. This feature launches next week, as Google aims to responsibly expand AI capabilities in line with its AI Principles.

4. Perplexity Launches Native Mac App to Compete in AI Search

AI search startup Perplexity has released a free native Mac app featuring quick search, voice mode, file upload, and Pro subscriptions ($20/month or $200/year) for more in-depth queries. This app rivals ChatGPT and Poe by adding seamless access through keyboard shortcuts and expanded interaction features. Users can view conversation history and ask follow-up questions, enhancing search continuity. Recently, Perplexity faced both a potential $500 million valuation boost and legal challenges from the New York Times over content usage.

5. Siemens Expands AI-Powered Industrial Copilot with Microsoft to Boost Automation Efficiency

Siemens and Microsoft have enhanced the Siemens Industrial Copilot with Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, enabling it to handle complex manufacturing tasks and streamline engineering processes. Now used by over 100 companies, including thyssenkrupp, the AI-powered tool helps tackle labor shortages and improve productivity. Thyssenkrupp plans a global rollout in 2025 to enhance automation, including advanced battery quality assurance. The Copilot, accessible via Siemens Xcelerator, reduces manual engineering tasks, making operations faster and more efficient.
