1. OpenAI Teams Up with Broadcom to Develop Custom AI Chips for 2026

OpenAI is reportedly collaborating with Broadcom to create custom silicon chips for its AI workloads, aiming for production by 2026. With a 20-person team that includes engineers from Google’s Tensor project, OpenAI’s new strategy reflects a push to reduce reliance on external suppliers and manage costs. Meanwhile, OpenAI is incorporating AMD chips within Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. However, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are further ahead in custom chip development, which may require OpenAI to secure more funding to remain competitive.

2. GitHub Expands Copilot with Multi-Model AI and New Spark Tool for Web Apps

At the GitHub Universe event, GitHub announced multi-model options for Copilot, allowing developers to choose AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. New updates include Spark, an AI tool for building web apps through natural language prompts, and enhanced Copilot features like multi-file editing in VS Code, improved code review, and Copilot for Xcode in public preview. These advances reflect GitHub's vision of making software development more accessible to a broader audience.

3. Google CEO Reveals AI Now Generates Over 25% of Google’s New Code

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that AI now generates over a quarter of the company’s new code, with human engineers reviewing it, signaling a shift in the tech landscape. While AI assists with routine coding, engineers can focus on innovation and complex problem-solving. This trend may lead to fewer entry-level coding roles, highlighting the need for coders to adapt with skills in supervising AI-driven workflows. 4. Ashton Kutcher’s VC Firm Sound Ventures Expands AI Investments with Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs

At TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, Sound Ventures announced a new AI investment in Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs, which focuses on creating “large world models” for 3D understanding, targeting game and film industries. Sound Ventures, which also backs OpenAI and Anthropic, is exploring AI's integration into hardware and new OS concepts, with interest in projects like Jony Ive’s AI device with Sam Altman. 5. U.S. Sanctions Spur Russia to Import Banned High-Tech Servers Through India

Following U.S. sanctions, Russia has been importing Dell servers with advanced processors from India. An Indian pharmaceutical firm, Shreya Life Sciences, exported over 1,100 servers containing restricted AMD and Nvidia processors to Russia between April and August 2024, as reported by Bloomberg. These exports exploit India's trade policies and bypass Western restrictions, raising scrutiny from U.S. and EU officials. India remains firm in its stance, maintaining economic ties with Russia despite pressure from the West.

6. LinkedIn Unveils "Hiring Assistant" AI to Streamline Recruiter Workflows

LinkedIn has launched Hiring Assistant, its first AI-driven tool for recruiters. Initially available to select large enterprises, this assistant automates repetitive tasks like drafting job descriptions and identifying candidates, allowing recruiters to focus on higher-impact work. Leveraging LinkedIn’s vast user data and Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, the tool will soon expand to support interview scheduling and candidate communication.
