1. DeepSeek's New Image Model Family
Viral AI company DeepSeek has launched the Janus-Pro, a new family of multimodal AI models designed to outperform OpenAI’s DALL-E 3. Ranging in size from 1 billion to 7 billion parameters, these models promise superior performance on key AI benchmarks like GenEval and DPG-Bench. With an MIT license allowing commercial use, Janus-Pro models present a flexible solution for next-generation image analysis and generation, outperforming many current unified and task-specific models.
2. DeepSeek Faces Cybersecurity Challenges
In a related development, DeepSeek has had to temporarily limit new user registrations following a cyber attack. While details remain sparse, the company is working to enhance its security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of its users' data.
3. Meta AI's Personalized Responses
Meta has unveiled updates to its AI chatbot that leverage user data from Facebook and Instagram to tailor responses. This capability allows Meta AI to recall user preferences and offer more personalized interactions. However, the lack of an opt-out feature raises privacy concerns amid ongoing debates about data usage and consumer trust in Meta's platforms.

5. Alibaba's Innovative AI Models
Alibaba's Qwen team has released the Qwen2.5-VL, an AI model family capable of controlling PCs and phones while performing complex text and image analysis tasks. These models not only challenge existing solutions from OpenAI and Google but also demonstrate Alibaba's growing influence in the AI sector. Their ability to interact with software across devices marks a notable advancement in AI capabilities.
6. iOS 18.3 Update Brings AI-Driven Changes
iOS 18.3 has arrived, introducing changes to AI notification summaries on iPhones. Apple has temporarily disabled these summaries for news and entertainment apps following feedback from the BBC about inaccurate headline summaries. Users will be notified when the feature is re-enabled. Additionally, Apple Intelligence will now be active by default on supported devices, enhancing capabilities like event creation from images and plant/animal identification.
