Good morning, this is Friday, April 4, 2025. We have some exciting AI news today with Amazon’s new AI feature, Runway's significant funding to advance AI-driven video production and Devin AI's introduction of a new pay-as-you-go plan enhancing accessibility for developers.

1. Amazon’s New ‘Buy for Me’ Feature Uses AI to Shop From Other Stores for You

Amazon just launched a new beta feature called “Buy for Me” that lets customers use the Amazon app to purchase items from other brands’ websites—even if those products aren’t sold directly by Amazon. Powered by agentic AI, the tool can browse, check out, and complete purchases on your behalf, all from within the familiar Amazon interface. It’s a big move that makes Amazon your one-stop shopping hub, even for things it doesn’t officially sell—making online shopping faster, easier, and way more convenient.

2. Runway Raises $308M to Build the Future of AI-Generated Film

AI video startup Runway just scored a massive $308 million funding round led by General Atlantic, with support from giants like Nvidia, SoftBank, and Fidelity. Valued at over $3 billion, the New York-based company plans to use the funds to expand its AI film and animation studio—creating virtual “world simulators” that can imagine and generate entire environments. Known for turning text prompts into videos, Runway is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in filmmaking, and even partnered with Lionsgate to help directors and creatives supercharge their storytelling with AI.

3. Devin, the Viral Coding AI, Now Starts at Just $20

Cognition’s buzzy AI programmer Devin just got a lot more affordable. Previously priced at $500/month, Devin is now offering a $20 pay-as-you-go plan aimed at wider adoption. That entry price gives you around 2.25 hours of coding work, with additional time billed based on usage. While Devin once went viral for writing code on its own, early versions struggled with complex tasks. But Cognition says the new Devin 2.0 is faster, smarter, and more useful — helping users plan projects, document code, and answer questions with citations.

4. Nintendo Switch 2 Unveiled with NVIDIA-Powered AI, 4K Graphics, and 10x Performance Boost

Nintendo just dropped a bombshell: the Switch 2 is here, and it’s a massive upgrade. Powered by a custom NVIDIA GPU with AI-focused Tensor Cores and real-time ray tracing, the new console delivers 4K gaming on TV and 120 FPS in handheld mode — plus sharper visuals thanks to DLSS upscaling. With 10x the graphics power of the original, smoother gameplay, and lifelike lighting, this is a next-gen leap for both players and developers. Oh, and yes — it still works on your couch and on the go.

5. Amazon’s AI Assistant Rufus Set to Add $700M to Profits — Without Selling a Thing

Amazon’s new AI shopping assistant, Rufus, isn’t selling products directly — but it’s still on track to boost the company’s operating profit by $700 million this year, according to leaked internal docs. Embedded in the Amazon app and website, Rufus helps users find what they’re looking for faster with smarter search and recommendations. While it’s expected to lose money in 2024, Amazon projects Rufus will drive over $1.2 billion in extra revenue by 2027, thanks to AI-powered ad placements and more efficient shopping.

6. OpenAI Makes ChatGPT Plus Free for Students — Just in Time for Finals (and a Major AI Showdown)

In a bold move to win the hearts (and habits) of tomorrow’s workforce, OpenAI is giving free ChatGPT Plus access to all college students in the U.S. and Canada through May. That’s $20/month worth of premium AI tools — including GPT-4o, image generation, and Deep Research — unlocked during crunch time for final exams. The timing isn’t just helpful, it’s strategic: just one day after rival Anthropic announced its own education push with Claude. With AI tools becoming central to learning, this is more than a student freebie — it’s a power play for dominance in the future of education and work.
