Good morning, this is Wednesday, March 12, 2025. We have some exciting AI news today, including Google's introduction of Gemma 3, a powerful AI model and OpenAI's new tools for building agents.

1. Google Unveils Gemma 3: A Powerful Single-GPU AI Model

Google has introduced Gemma 3, an AI model claiming to be the most powerful that can run on a single GPU. Supporting over 35 languages and capable of analyzing text, images, and short videos, Gemma 3 outperforms models from competitors like Facebook, DeepSeek, and OpenAI on single-GPU systems. It's optimized for Nvidia GPUs and specialized AI hardware, featuring an upgraded vision encoder and a classifier to filter explicit or harmful content.

2. OpenAI Introduces New Tools for Building AI Agents

OpenAI has launched a set of APIs and tools designed to simplify the development of AI agents. The new Responses API combines the simplicity of Chat Completions with the tool-use capabilities of the Assistants API, supporting built-in tools like web search, file search, and computer use. Additionally, the Agents SDK helps orchestrate single-agent and multi-agent workflows, aiming to streamline core agent logic and interactions for developers.

3. Microsoft Launches Responses API and Computer-Using Agent

Microsoft has announced the Responses API and Computer-Using Agent within its Azure AI Foundry. These tools aim to enhance developers' ability to build AI applications that can interact seamlessly with computer systems, streamlining tasks and improving efficiency. The initiative reflects Microsoft's commitment to advancing AI integration across various platforms.

4. Dexterity Secures $95 Million to Develop 'Physical AI' Robots

Dexterity has raised $95 million in funding to accelerate the development of 'Physical AI,' which powers robots to perform physical tasks. Their technology aims to enhance productivity and address labor shortages by enabling robots with human-like dexterity to automate repetitive tasks and handle complex manipulations in unpredictable environments, particularly in logistics, warehousing, and supply chain operations.

5. Meta Tests In-House AI Training Chips

Meta is testing its first in-house chip designed specifically for training AI systems, aiming to reduce reliance on external suppliers like Nvidia. The dedicated accelerator is optimized for AI tasks, enhancing power efficiency compared to traditional GPUs. This initiative is part of Meta's strategy to cut infrastructure costs associated with its substantial investments in AI, with plans to integrate these chips into recommendation systems and generative AI products like Meta AI by 2026.
