1. Google Gemini Introduces Real-Time Video Features

Google is enhancing its AI assistant, Gemini, with new features that enable real-time "seeing" through a smartphone's screen or camera. These capabilities allow Gemini to answer questions based on visual input, such as assisting users in choosing paint colors for pottery. Currently available to Gemini Advanced subscribers via the Google One AI Premium plan, this rollout positions Google ahead of competitors like Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri in the AI assistant landscape.

2. Apple Watch to Feature Cameras and AI Capabilities

Apple plans to integrate cameras into the Apple Watch within the next two years to support AI features like Visual Intelligence. Standard Series Watches will have cameras embedded inside the display, while the Apple Watch Ultra will feature side-positioned cameras. These enhancements aim to provide contextual information about the user's environment, such as adding event details to calendars or retrieving restaurant information. Similar features are being considered for camera-equipped AirPods. Mike Rockwell, previously leading the Vision Pro project, now oversees the development of AI features in Apple's wearables.

3. Anthropic's Claude Gains Web Search Capabilities

Anthropic has updated its chatbot, Claude, to include web search capabilities for paid users in the U.S., with plans to extend this feature to free users and additional countries soon. This enhancement allows Claude to access up-to-date information and provide citations for source verification. Users can enable and toggle the web search through their profiles. Despite potential accuracy challenges, Anthropic aims to maintain transparency by providing citations, ensuring users can verify information.

4. South Korean AI Chip Startup Snubs Meta’s $800M Offer—Here’s Why

FuriosaAI, a rising South Korean AI chipmaker, has reportedly turned down an $800 million acquisition offer from Meta, choosing independence over a buyout. The deal collapsed due to disagreements on strategy and structure rather than price, as Meta seeks alternatives to Nvidia’s AI chips. Instead, FuriosaAI is pushing forward with its own development, raising $48 million to fund its next-gen chips, including the soon-to-launch Renegade (RNGD), designed for advanced AI models.

5. Jack Ma’s Ant Group Cracks AI Training Costs—Slashes Expenses by 20% with Chinese Chips

Ant Group, backed by Jack Ma, has achieved a major AI breakthrough by cutting training costs by 20% using Chinese-made semiconductors from Alibaba and Huawei instead of Nvidia. Leveraging the Mixture of Experts (MoE) technique, Ant’s models deliver results comparable to Nvidia’s H800 chips—marking a shift toward domestic alternatives amid U.S. tech restrictions. While still using Nvidia and AMD chips, Ant’s move signals China’s growing push for AI self-sufficiency, as competition with U.S. giants like OpenAI and Google intensifies.

6. Meet Browser Use: The Startup Making AI Agents Smarter Online with $17M Backing

AI agents struggle to navigate websites, but Browser Use has a solution—turning web pages into a format AI can actually understand. The Y Combinator-backed startup just raised a $17 million seed round led by Felicis to scale its open-source tool, which helps AI agents interact with websites more reliably. With growing demand from companies automating online tasks, Browser Use could become the missing link for AI-powered browsing.
