Hey there,

Today's AI news is all about control.

Meta's dropping $2 billion to build their own AI chips. Peloton's new AI watches your form through cameras while you work out. And Samsung just agreed to make 900,000 memory chips monthly for OpenAI's massive Stargate project.

Let's break it down.

1. Meta Acquires Rivos for $2 Billion to Build Own AI Chips

Meta's acquiring chip startup Rivos to break their dependence on Nvidia GPUs and build custom AI accelerators in-house. Rivos specializes in RISC-V architecture, an open-source alternative to Intel and ARM designs, and was already one of Meta's biggest customers. The deal accelerates Meta's Training and Inference Accelerator project as they're spending up to $119 billion on AI infrastructure in 2025 alone. VP Yee Jiun Song confirmed Rivos brings expertise in full-stack AI systems that will help Meta control more of their AI infrastructure destiny.

2. Peloton Launches AI-Powered IQ System That Tracks Your Body

Peloton unveiled Peloton IQ across their new Cross Training Series, using built-in cameras to provide real-time form feedback, count reps, and suggest weights while you exercise. The system analyzes your workout history to create personalized plans, estimate performance targets, and adapt recommendations based on data from Garmin and Apple Health. All five new devices feature swivel screens for seamless switching between cardio and strength, with the plus models including Sonos-tuned speakers and voice control. Two million members are actively strength training on the platform as Peloton shifts from just cycling to total wellness.

3. Amazon's New Echo Devices Built Specifically for Alexa+ AI

Amazon launched four new Echo devices purpose-built for Alexa+, featuring custom silicon and Omnisense sensor fusion that enable smarter, more personalized AI experiences. The Echo Dot Max delivers 3x the bass with room-adapting sound, while Echo Studio is 40% smaller but maintains surround sound with Dolby Atmos support. Echo Show 8 and 11 pack over a million pixels in high-density displays with 13-megapixel cameras that recognize when you approach. Early Access users are talking to Alexa+ twice as much, using it for everything from smart home control to booking reservations.

4. Samsung and SK Hynix Join OpenAI's $500B Stargate Project

Samsung and SK Hynix signed deals to supply 900,000 high-bandwidth memory chips monthly for OpenAI's Stargate initiative, doubling current global HBM production capacity. The Korean chipmakers met with Sam Altman and President Lee Jae-myung in Seoul, agreeing to scale production for the $500 billion AI infrastructure project. SK Telecom will also build "Stargate Korea," an AI data center in the country's southwest region, while Samsung explores floating offshore data centers for better cooling and scalability. The two companies control 80% of global HBM market, making them critical suppliers for OpenAI's compute expansion.

5. Meta Will Use Your AI Chats to Target Ads Starting December

Meta announced they'll start using your conversations with their AI chatbot to personalize ads and content across Facebook and Instagram beginning December 16, 2025. If you chat with Meta AI about hiking, you'll see hiking groups, trail posts from friends, and ads for hiking boots across all Meta platforms. Users can't opt out of this data collection when using Meta AI, though sensitive topics like health and religion won't be used for targeting. The change affects Meta AI's 1 billion monthly active users, with notifications starting October 7.

6. IBM and AMD Deploy Massive AI Cluster for $1B Startup Zyphra

IBM and AMD are delivering one of the largest AI training clusters to date, providing Zyphra with AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs on IBM Cloud for their multimodal foundation models. This marks the first time AMD's full-stack training platform has been integrated at scale on IBM Cloud, combining compute through networking capabilities. Zyphra, valued at $1 billion after Series A funding, will use the infrastructure to develop Maia, a superintelligent agent for enterprise knowledge workers. The initial deployment started in September with expansion planned for 2026 as part of a multi-year agreement.
