Okay, what an Artifact actually is.
Normally Claude gives you text. An Artifact is a real, working thing that appears next to the chat. A calculator you can type into. A checklist you can tick. A small web page, a chart, a mini tool.
And it's interactive. You use it. You change it by just asking.
Here's the shift. You stop asking Claude to tell you things and start asking it to build you things.
Some real ones people make in two minutes:
- A pricing calculator where you enter the numbers and it gives the quote
- A simple habit or budget tracker
- A meal or content planner laid out the way you like
- A tip calculator, a unit converter, a decision scorer
- A clean one-page tool you can send a client
How to do it. Describe the tool plainly:
Build me a simple [tool] as an interactive artifact.
What it does: [describe the job. What goes in, what comes out.]
Inputs: [the fields the user fills in.]
Output: [what it should calculate or show.]
Keep it clean and easy to use. No code for me to run, just a working tool.It builds it. You try it. Then you refine out loud. "Make the total bigger." "Add a field for tax." "Change the colors." It edits live.
Two things worth knowing.
You can publish an Artifact and get an embed code, so a tool you built can go on your site or into a doc.
And you don't need to know a single line of code. You describe, it builds, you use.
This is one of those features that quietly changes what you think is possible. The gap between "I wish this existed" and "here it is" just dropped to about ninety seconds.
